What was your most memorable moment?
The Torngat Mountains in north Labrador are stunning. We spent 3 days in the area. It was wonderful to be able to hike in this pristine and beautiful area. I have been to Greenland before. The east coast has more spectacular scenery. I wonder if a trip to the Greenland icecap could have been included on this occasion . It would be of general interest. The program included a comprehensive program of visiting the old, abandoned settlement sites and on board this was complemented by presentations about the history of the Inuit and Innu way of life and their history post white settlement. This was instructive and interesting. There was a number of locals who lived in Nain on board and it was great to be able o share their stories and interact with them. Lanse Aux Meadows is a place that I have always wanted to visit. It is well presented and very interesting.

Tell us about the Ocean Endeavour
The ship is showing its age but is comfortable. My only complaint is the room where all the presentations were made was not ideal for use. There are so many posts between the seats and the stage that it was often difficult to see the presentation properly. There are TV's scattered around the room , but facing away from the presenter to watch the nearest TV was not ideal, in fact a nuisance which detracted significantly from experience. If you didn't get to the room early to get a "good" seat the presentations were not easy to take in.
Tell us about the expedition team
Excellent. There were so many people presenting with real local experience. Their talks really were very interesting and worthwhile.
Were Swoop right to recommend Adventure Canada?
Yes
Tell us about Zodiac excursions
They were enjoyable, well run , with careful attention to safety. All of the drivers seemed very experienced. Even on the one occasion when the zodiac ran into a rock at speed and stopped suddenly was handled expertly. I never had any fears for safety and the issues were rapidly sorted out.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to The Arctic?
Be ready for stunning scenery ion the Torngat mountains. They are really worth seeing. Follow the list of clothing suggested by Adventure Canada. It was spot on.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
It has been good to listen and learn about way first nations issues have been resolved . The mistakes that were made are made initially are similar to those made in other countries. Canada / Labrador seem to have sorted out the issues well and are still working at it. THe first woman President of Greenland was on board for a few days and gave a talk. It was fascinating to hear of the progress and plans of this small indigenous population of a large country.
